Youphoria Yoga Mat Review

April 14, 2015 //  by Di Hickman//  1 Comment

youphoria yoga mat

One of my goals for 2015 was to dive head first into yoga. Not only by seeking more yoga education but also more personal practice, and teaching more classes. Part of yoga is having the right the equipment. I’ve got my mat(s), bags, straps and blocks but wanted another mat for home practice so I can leave one mat in the car ready for teaching yoga at any time. So I jumped at the chance to review this blue yoga mat by Youphoria. The sent me the mat in exchange for a review and I was only too happy to put this mat through it’s paces. If you’re in my classes you’ll be seeing this mat more, and let’s face it with this bright teal blue you can’t miss it! My full video review is below, or you can view it on my YouTube Channel

So obviously working in the fitness industry for 20 years I’ve seen some good mats, and some pretty awful mats. So I like to think I know a lemon when I see one. This yoga mat is beautiful! I ordered the blue because it’s my favorite color and the teal is the color for Polycystic Kidney Awareness. Coincidence that it’s my favorite color? Yes! Anyway I was super happy that it’s bright and cheerful. This also shows how far I’ve come personally as 5 years ago I would have just bought the black.

One super thing about the Youphoria mat is it comes with it’s own carry strap. I’ve NEVER known this with a yoga mat. Most mats you have to buy the strap or bag separately. So having a carry strap included was great! Thanks Youphoria! One thing that never occurred to me is that people really don’t know how to roll up a yoga mat so I’ll be doing a tutorial on that soon too!

The yoga mat was usable straight out of the box! For a yoga mat that’s unique! Believe me some of these mats smell awful! While this one does have a light smell it’s absolutely fine. Some mats I’ve had to leave out in the open for a week to let them air before I can use them, but this one was great due to being eco-friendly and not full of toxic chemicals. It’s nicely cushioned. Enough to protect my boney parts, but light enough that in balance postures I didn’t feel like it impeded my balance at all.

It was grippy enough but once I worked up a sweat my hands slid a little in downward facing dog. Not a lot but enough that I readjusted. However I was hot and sweaty by then. Youphoria says that “some break in time may be required” so if it gets better from here I’ll be super happy because it’s a great mat. Looks great and functions great. With the mat you get great customer service too! Directions on mat care are available from the Youphoria website, and the mats have a 100% satisfaction guarantee! I love a company that stands behind their products.

In all I absolutely fell in love with this Youphoria yoga mat. Yes mostly because it’s my favorite color, but it functions great as a yoga mat too. If blue isn’t your favorite color they also do black, green and PINK! I was tempted with the pink I have to admit. Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a yogalates workout video using the mat so you can see it fully in action!

What kind of yoga mat do you have?

[…] Now you might think… Why do I need a tutorial? Well if you are rolling from one end of the mat to the other, your mat is picking up all the crap off the floor, and that floor might not be as clean as yours is at home! So that’s why you need a freakin’ tutorial! The mat by the way is the youphoria yoga mat I reviewed earlier this week. […]
