This month for my Patreon community I created a gentle Yin yoga for hips and lower back practice. I love restorative and yin and thought I’d do a shorter class using a yin and/or restorative twist. This is a great pose to ease into a deep stretch for the hips, and IT band to help reduce lower back pain.
If you can’t view the embedded video above, you can view the video on YouTube. Maybe add it to a playlist? Above all, remember to subscribe to my channel. New videos are uploaded regularly. However, for exclusive longer format videos sign up for my Patreon community. Each month we explore poses, transitions, and trouble areas. Yin yoga for hips and lower back
As always we begin the practice with a short body scan before coming into the supine twist. Before coming into the twist I highly suggest you move the pelvis up and over to the opposite side you want to take the legs. In this Yin yoga for hips and lower back class we’re bringing the legs to the left first so pelvis to the right. Draw the knees up and over to the left, supporting on blanket or bolster.

For a deeper stretch you can take the bottom leg and lift up and over the top leg. This uses gravity and weight to “pull” it towards the floor. If there is a gap between the legs and the floor then fill the gap with bolster or blanket. The one thing I do want to mention is that IF in the twist your opposite shoulder lifts, then either support or drape the arm across your torso. Repeat on both sides.
