Trying a vegan meal delivery service: Veestro

November 27, 2017 //  by Di Hickman//  42 Comments

Does anybody else associate the holidays with just being crazy busy? As soon as October rolls around it’s one gathering, function and social event after another and I don’t think I’m alone when I admit that during these seasonal crazy periods self care gets shelved, in favor of survival. Thankfully the folks at MamboSprouts asked if I wanted to partner with Veestro, and trial their vegan meal delivery service. Um, yeah! If it means I have one less thing to worry about, sign me up! I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own, and based on my experience.

Vegan Meal Delivery

For a while now I’ve been secretly envious of all these bloggers trying meal deliver services, because let’s face it TIME is the most valuable asset any of us has and meal delivery saves time. However I could never see any services that were vegan. Enter Veestro, a 100% plant based company, with gourmet plant-based meals delivered to your doorstep. Plus they are prepared with organic ingredients and preservative free, and they have gluten free options.

Unpacking the Veestro Box

The package arrived in perfect condition, packed in dry ice ready to transfer to the freezer. That was a first for me, and a novel experience. I soon scoured through the informational materials and put everything in the freezer and then planed my week. My plan was to get the most benefit out of the meals by using them on my uber busy days. I’d allowed Veestro to choose meals at random, after all they were providing the vegan meal delivery and what better way to get a good idea as to the service? Better to try something new right? I got 4 meals and a juice: eggplant casserole, lentil meatloaf, adzuki spaguetti w/veggie balls, latin stew and hand grenade green juice.

Hand Grenade Juice & Latin Stew

The Hand Grenade Juice was delicious! All I had to do was defrost is overnight in the fridge and boom, ready to go! Surprisingly sweet and tart, this juice contains: apple, celery, kale, broccoli, kiwi and maqui berry. Fully impressed with the juice my first meal was the latin stew. All of the meals by Veestro can either be cooked in the oven, stove or microwave, making things very convenient. As time was of the essence during crazy season I opted for nuking mine, and in a couple of minutes I had a lovely meal ready to go!

The latin stew was delicious, and the addition of plantains and black beans added a lot of flavor. Plantains are definitely something I’ve come to enjoy since living in America. I’d never tried them before coming here but love the latin influence of this meal and ate every last scrap. Each of the packaged also comes with a nutritional information leaflet so I knew that this meal was  420 calories, 6g fat, 71g carbs and 24g of protein.

Lentil Meatloaf

So far the vegan meal delivery service by Veestro was a hit, I was saving time, and having delicious meals. My second meal was the lentil meatloaf. One thing I liked is that the gravy is separate. I dislike things being super soggy, so I could choose to use some or all of the gravy. Plus the nutritional information listed both separately. Nice! Of all the meals I tried this lentil meatloaf was my second favorite. The combination of lentils and veggies with gravy was pretty filling and extremely tasty. This meal was more calorie dense at 570 calories for the meatloaf and 80 for the gravy. Total calories 650, fat 12g, carbs 110g, and protein 32g.

Adzuki bean spaghetti with veggie meatballs

Lunch was light the next day with the Veestro Adzuki bean spaghetti with veggie meatballs. For some color I added a bed of lettuce. What can I say, I like vegetables with my vegetables. This was surprisingly filling at just 410 calories, 7g fat, 56g carbs and 32g protein. Of the four meals I think this was my least favorite. Still tasted great but the other meals really shone in comparison.

eggplant casserole

I think one of the major benefits of a vegan meal delivery service like the one from Veestro is that I get to try things I wouldn’t normally. Enter the eggplant casserole. Of all the meals this one knocked my socks off. At just 230 calories, 12g fat, 26g carbs and 11g protein this was so freaking tasty!!! For some color and micronutrients I added some salad veggies, but on a cooler day I think some broccoli and green beans would work well too. FREAKING DELICIOUS! This one was my favorite by far. Maybe the tofu, or the soy cheese, or just the combination of flavors, but it was so good!!!

Veestro Vegan Meal Delivery Service

I was blown away by how good each of the meals were. They good nutritionally, tasty and convenient. If you look at the Veestro website they have a plethora of packages to choose from. Veestro has something for everyone, whether you want specifically dinners, breakfasts, or a starter, lunches, weight loss or a juice cleanse. There is also a 21-day kickstart package with 21 meals and 6 juices, so if you were interested in trying a plant based diet this provides everything you need! For those just interested in meatless Mondays, they have you covered with 8 breakfasts lunches and dinners enough for 2 months of meatless Mondays! Plus of course a starter pack to try them out with 12 Veestro meals and a juice for $99 and includes free shipping! Seriously, I thoroughly recommend them

I done a few meal delivery services, but they require me to cook. I’ve often thought about trying one that comes with prepared meals so I don’t always have to cook. Veestro sounds like a great service. I would love to try the juice and the “meatloaf” since I do miss meat sometimes.

It’s been 25 years since I had meat, never missed it. There are so many alternatives now that nobody should need to kill and animal to eat.

Vegan diet can be very healthy, but as I say to clients… oreos are vegan. You have to ensure plants are the main part of the diet. It’s so easy to eat vegan junk food now!
