As a fitness instructor in England I was subscribed to Fitness Professionals and one magazine I saw a flier or ad for the starlight foundation, using fitness events to raise money for ill children and I figured “I can do that”. So I organized and taught step for 3 hours (I think, it could have been 4/5 it was a LONG time ago!) as part of my step-a-thon. I don’t even remember how much money we raised it was so long ago. But basically the participants got sponsors for the event and we raised a bunch of money to help sick kids do fun things.
We held the event at Queens leisure center where I taught twice a week and taught step twice a week so quite of few of the gals were more than happy to get their step on. We did however have to change location to the downstairs meeting room but that was ok, we were down for that!
This was probably a year into my teaching career as I had my knee brace on. I was teaching too many classes and getting burnt out from teaching the same types of classes and having flaring knee pain. If I knew then what I know now!!!
I’m really glad I have some photo’s from this event, seeing my class regulars and PT clients. Remembering faces, stories and fun times. My classes were always fun. The thing with step is someone is usually facing the wrong way at some point but we were a close bunch and nobody cared… enjoy it, have fun, do your thang! Laugh and move on!
What charity fitness events have you done?
