The first race I did was a fun run in Woodranch. No chip timing, no frills, no fuss, no stress and no pressure! I was brand new to running and just coming off a knee injury in 2009. I decided that I would sign up and see where it would take me. The run was called a FUN RUN as no chip timing and I have to say for my first race I enjoyed it, though it was a precursor of things to come as I missed the finish line entrance and had to run back around for the finish chute. At this point I had very little in the way of clothes that fit as I’d just lost 25lbs.
I still have those shorts! I need to do another closet clear out soon! 😉 I had no photographer as I knew NOBODY there and Bob was sound asleep in bed! Lazy bones… at least he races with me now!
I was totally pooped afterwards… I hung around a little while to catch my breath and get some water in me then left. I usually wear sports sunglasses now, and I prefer to run in tanks and shorts. Funny how things change!
My Garmin time was 27:37 which isn’t that far off the race I ran last weekend, though different course and every race is different. Never compare Di, never compare! It was a fun experience though and definitely helped prepare me for a ‘real’ race with chip timing and competitive participants.
Do you have photo’s from your first run?
