TBT – ear lobe operation – sarcoid granuloma removal

February 6, 2014 //  by Di Hickman//  2 Comments

Ok close your browser if you don’t like blood or weird stuff 😉 Today on Throwback Thursday I’m gonna talk about my ear operations. Below you will see my ears, right and left. As you’ll note there was a big lump or swelling on my left ear. It had never bothered me but in 2004 it got darker and bigger so I got it looked at by the doctor.

Right Ear / Left Ear

In 2004 we were with Blue Cross as our medical provider and I was referred to the hospital in the Valley for removal of this lump. They told me initially that I’d be under LOCAL anaesthetic and either I am extremely susceptible to anaesthetic or they gave me a general because I don’t remember a single thing. I woke up groggy to this.

Stitches came out a couple of weeks later and I was left with a somewhat better looking ear. Although much of the coloring was the same and I was missing a chunk of ear lobe. Whilst I’m sure the dr there did his best it really wasn’t a great job. When they sent the lump to the lab for testing it came back as a sarcoid granuloma, and I was tested for Sarcoidosis, which came back negative.

Fast forward a couple of years and BOOM lump is back! Not as big as before but it’s definitely back!

This time the doc referred me to a dermatologist in Westlake called Dr Capri who I cannot recommend enough!!! He gave me a local and sorted things out right there, that day, no return appt. He also froze a couple of suspicious moles and marks on my face. I walked out much happier and looking much better, if a little bloody! No stitches!

Again the lump lab returned as sarcoid granuloma and another sarcoidosis test and another negative result. A couple of weeks later this time it looked MUCH better

And as the weeks, turned to months and years today it looks even better. You can’t tell that I ever had surgery on it. Aside from the earlobe is about 1/2 inch shorter on that side. It looks WAY better than it did. I really cannot recommend Dr Capri enough. If you are local to me and ever need any dermatology work he is great! He also removed a mole/lump from my left eyebrow at my follow up visit and that looks great too!

Have you ever had any surgery? Any dermatological problems?

My daughter has had surgery and tried injections, pressure earrings, and allergy shots, but both earlobes are still deformed, red and itchy. What did this doctor do to your ear? Thank you.

I had a lump in my ear lobe, you could feel it. He gave me a local anesthetic and cut the lump out plus any contaminated tissue.
It’s been fine since but like the photo’s part of the ear lobe is missing, however it looks and feels so much better!
