Vegan Food in London

October 8, 2018 //  by Di Hickman

For the last seven years we've vacationed in England, visiting family and friends. The last three times we've opted to split our time between our home city of Derby, and London. Who can resist the sights and sounds of a big city? Especially when the vegan food in London is so varied and amazing! In a previous post I shared all the vegan food we ate in Derby, so today it's London's turn! Fantastic Vegan food in London First I want to say a BIG thanks to Bob who had done some research before …

Vegan food in Derbyshire

October 3, 2018 //  by Di Hickman

When we lived in England I was vegetarian so I knew that vegetarianism was big in the UK, so many stores and restaurants catered to veggies. In fact for a long time vegetarian food ranges in the UK was far superior to those in the USA. However when I opted to go 100% plant based five years ago, I noticed vegan food in the UK appeared to be lacking. Thankfully in the last 18 months there has been a shift of availability and awareness. I decided that I'd split my plant based culinary adventures …

Airbnb 18th Century Cottage in Milford

September 15, 2017 //  by Di Hickman

On previous visits to the UK we've stayed with my parents, Bobs Mum, Bobs sister and we've also stayed in a hotel. Each has their pros and cons. Hotels can get expensive as you have to eat out a lot. Staying with family is ok but honestly I don't enjoy living in their pockets for two weeks. I need my space. As we saved money on our flights this visit, we decided to try renting through airbnb. We found an apartment in Milford, a small village between Belper and Duffield. It was close to family in …

Air New Zealand Vegan inflight Meals

September 11, 2017 //  by Di Hickman

Have you ever got a deal that was so good that you just couldn't pass up? That was us last November when we checked out the Cyber Monday deals on flights to the UK. Which is why in August we found ourselves traveling back to the UK, just 18 months after our last visit. I have a plans to post about our trip, including museums, galleries, castles, and tons of British vegan food, but today I figured I'd start with the beginning of the trip the flight. Specifically the Air New Zealand vegan inflight …

Vegan food on our UK vacation

January 15, 2015 //  by Di Hickman

Many of you will no doubt know that we took a couple of weeks vacation in November 2014 to visit family and friends and while fun it was my first time going back 'home' as a vegan. While they cater everywhere for vegetarians, it seems vegan options are less available in the UK, or I'm spoiled here in  California! Anyways before we left I did lots of research on vegan options and got a lot of help from friends on vegan facebook groups. The town we're from in England doesn't have any …

Meatless Monday: Air New Zealand Meatless Meals

December 1, 2014 //  by Di Hickman

Ok first I want to say vegan food at LAX was pretty pathetic. The terminals restaurants we ALL closed for refurbishment so there was nothing to eat other than a small coffee bar called The Pie Hole. Then did a vegetarian pie that Bob had, and I had a vegan apple crumble, water, fruit cup and potato chips. Bob had the veggie hand pie (which he said wasn't very good), apple juice and potato chips for a grand total of $21.40 Man airport food is expensive, and it wasn't that great either. The …
