The Arroyo Simi Half Marathon, 10k and 5k was on Sunday and I'd signed us up MONTHS ago (early bird pricing). I really do recommend signing up early for races to get the best deals. We actually run this race last year and I posted my review and results from that race already on my 2013 Arroyo Simi 5k post. The problem this year is that Saturday after race packet pick-up (again at Sports Authority in Westlake, like last year), I started to feel a little unwell :( As you may know I have …

Honor Ride 2014 recap – Thousand Oaks
Today I want to share my weekends experience on my first cycling event. We signed up for the Honor Ride in Thousand Oaks, well Agoura/Westlake. The Honor Rides Series raises awareness and is the funding arm for Ride 2 Recovery and gives the public the opportunity to ride with healing heroes and enlisted military on a non-competitive, fun ride. Close to 20 Honor Rides will take place throughout the year, with varying distances from 10 to 100 miles. All funds raised through the Honor Ride Series …
Race Recap: Hollywood half marathon, 10k, 5k, 2014
It's race recap time for the Hollywood Half Marathon/10k/5k. I signed up for this as a cyber Monday deal back in 2013 and so though it's been on the schedule planner for a while it definitely crept up on us! April is a tough month with THREE events this month! One thing I liked about this event was the virtual goodie bag. I know some people like the race bags but be honest most of it is full of crap. All fliers for other upcoming races, sponsors and samples of stuff you rarely try. The ONLY good …
Race Recap – Say No To Drugs Universal Studios Backlot 5k – 2013 edition
What a weekend!!! Saturday we saw a movie and had dinner at Real Food Daily! Starting with lentil walnut pate, with tofu sour cream, wheat-free rice crackers and crudités Bob had the club sandwich with crispy seitan, tempeh bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and vegenaise on sourdough bread. He couldn't wait and ate one before I took a photo! I opted for the SUPREME BURRITO wet w/ ranchero sauce, Spanish rice, black beans, melted cashew cheese, tempeh bacon, sautéed peppers and onions, …

Race Recap – Simi Valley 5k 10k
So Saturday was our first run since the Arroyo Creek race on August 11th! That's a whopping 6 weeks without much running. Bob and I had gotten out the last two weeks and run a couple of miles (2 last weekend) but really we were both vastly unprepared for this race. So finishing was the goal! Especially for Bob as he was running in his vibrams for the first time. Friday afternoon I picked up the race packets from Sports Authority in Westlake and got the feeling that this would be a quieter than …
Race Recap: Arroyo Creek 5K
Saturday was race packet pick up at Sports Authority in Westlake. I went straight after morning classes so I beat the crowds :) Packet pick up was quiet and I met Bill (the organizer) and introduced myself, I'm going to be volunteering at race packet pick up for the September race! After a little bit of initial confusion (our bibs and chip numbers didn't match) we eventually got matching numbers. I picked up some cute pink and black running shorts :) 20% off with my coupon from packet pick …
Love Run 5K 2013 race recap
In 2010 the Love Run in Westlake was my 2nd ever run. It was my first timed run and my first real "event". Previously I'd run a fun 5k in Woodranch which whilst fun and a good prep for races wasn't really a 'proper' racing event. In the Love Run in 2010 I'd done the 5k in 25:07 so I was eager to get at least that time again however the week leading up to the race had not been without its issues! I'd been slowly breaking in some new running shoes (new balance) and had walked, biked and done …
Race recap: New Year’s 5K race – Los Angeles at Night!
Saturday night we left our warm home and went out into the chilly evening and headed to Downtown Los Angeles for the 2013 New Years Race. It was our first night time race and the first run since the jingle jog back in December (due to illness). To say we were unprepared for the race would be an understatement. I'd done some cardio last week (spinning and bodycombat) but nothing like a 5k run. I wasn't sure my chest was fully recovered and Bob was having issues again with his foot, but we …
