Spin Playlist: Money

April 10, 2015 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

somecards money spin playlist

For those in the USA you have another 5 days to get your taxes filed, or file for an extension so get busy! In the meantime I took out some of the hard work and put together a fun money spinning playlist. Hey, it’s tax season so a money themed playlist seemed like a good idea! This one features songs about money, hard times, good times and the struggles in between.

Price Tag – J Rae    iTunes   /   Amazon

Warm Up, Enough Said. I actually use a fitness version of this song I got from PowerMusic.com but this remix by J Rae works ok.

She works hard for the money – Donna Summer    iTunes   /   Amazon

This is apparently the VH1 Live version, and it’s awesome for a quick tempo and further warm up. Donna Summer can SING! Add a little resistance work through the positions. Go through all your teaching points here.

Play Hard – David Guetta    iTunes   /   Amazon

Time to take things into hills with an interval tempo on hills. Add some resistance, around 40% and roll through positions 1 & 2. Start up on 2nd, come down on the slow portions at the chorus, then come back up for the peppier verse. Got my fitness all lookin’ buff!

Money – Flying Lizards    iTunes   /   Amazon

Gotta do it. Classic. You can do jumps on a hill here. There are more jumps later so go over all the teaching points. There are a couple of versions of this song short or long. You could also do a climb in third here with tougher resistance, depends on your class.

Money for Nothing – Crew 7    iTunes   /   Amazon

This cover is one I first discovered when I started teaching CXworx 4 years ago. Loved it then, love it now. It’s a bit more up tempo than the original by Dire Straits. Tempo switchbacks. Challenge the class to add resistance through the song while keeping the tempo AND working through switchback. You hear and FEEL the transitions in the music, it gets louder at certain points (chorus with heavy beat), I choose to come up into third then and surge through the resistance on the switchback.

Rich Girl – Me First and the Gimme Gimmes    iTunes   /   Amazon

This is another cover, this time of the classic Hall & Oats. Take the resistance down, flush out the legs with an easy resistance and higher speed.

Material Girl (DJ Maxwell Tanzen remix) – Magnetic    iTunes   /   Amazon

I swear I didn’t mean for this to be all cover versions but here is another. Madonna covered with a heavy bass beat. Tempo, screams it. Add around 40%   resistance, push through position for the 5 minutes.

Ain’t no rest for the wicked – Cage the Elephant   iTunes   /   Amazon

This is a song I first heard on Pandora and liked it, it’s a bit slow and grungy but we need it after some pop, and heavy bass. Time to stay down in the saddle and climb, HEAVY! Add lots of resistance through the song, ending with 80-90% and slow speed. It’s only 3 minutes long!

Money Maker – The black keys    iTunes   /   Amazon

Oh, you thought things were gonna get easier? Well slightly, take resistance down to 75% come into 3rd and continue climbing!!!

Rich Girl – Gwen Stefani    iTunes   /   Amazon

Too damn catchy. Let’s take the resistance down a notch and JUMP! Speed is up to you because you could go quick, or slow. If you feel evil do another climb!!!

Moneys too tight to mention – Simply Red    iTunes   /   Amazon

Cutback mix is linked BUT the version I have, and better IMO, is the Ministry of Sound Vol 7 remix Simply Red vs Alex Gaudino. It’s just way better, and a great mix for a tempo ride. If you can find the MOS remix get that one instead, I couldn’t find it on iTunes or Amazon. I get obscure stuff sometimes 😉

Can’t buy me love – The Beatles    iTunes   /   Not available on Amazon

Classic. Turn the resistance down, easy spin through the legs for two minutes. If you kept all hills for the last 5 songs you’ll need it!

Bills Bills Bills (Maurice’s Livegig remix) – Desitinys Child.    iTunes   /   Amazon

Remix!!! DOn’t use the original it’s slow and boring. Get this mixx by Maurice. He’s added a nice uptempo kick to this. The lyrics are there still for the ladies to sign along to, while keeping a pop-ish beat to it. Easy resistance, maybe around 30-40% and then transition through positions. Now while it’s poppy and fun it’s LONG so you need to be in for the long haul!

Opportunities – Pet Shop Boys    iTunes   /   Amazon

Last chance for a climb. Add resistance, stay down, push through. Enough said.

Money Money Money – Abba    iTunes   /   Amazon

Turn it up, turn the resistance down a notch to around 25% and sprint the chorus… encourage singing to work harder 🙂

9 to 5 – Dolly Parton    iTunes   /   Amazon

Cool down. It’s almost 3 minutes long so enough to spin through the legs and reduce the resistance while prepping for the stretch. Do the upper body stretches here because the next one is also quick.

Ka-Ching – Shania Twain    iTunes   /   Amazon

Stretch, duh! Slow, short and sweet. Lower body stretches here.
