Snacking on Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart Bars

February 25, 2016 //  by Di Hickman//  16 Comments

Cos’ I’m all about the snacks! Seriously. Recently, thanks to  being a FitApproach #sweatpink ambassador, I got to try out these brand spanking new Hemp Heart Bars from Manitoba Harvest. I *heart* hemp hearts. Like seriously they are SUPER good for you and I’ve reviewed the Manitoba Hemp Hearts, and was eager to try out these new bars they came out with! So before we get into the snacks, let’s get the legal smeagle out the way. Yes I received these products free to review, but all opinions are my own. I keep it real yo!

Hemp Heart Bars – snacking on the go!

In my goody box I got two of the three new flavors to try, chocolate and apple-cinnamon, but there is also a vanilla flavor. Each bar is 45g and 230 calories, has 10g of plant-based protein (yes these bars are Vegan) and are non-GMO. Plus they have a whopping 10g of Omega fats! Interesting fact, hemp hearts are a complete plant based protein source! Anyway, that’s all well and good but how did they taste? Well initially I was expecting a crunchy bar for some reason, and nope, it’s a chewy bar. You can find details on their website for full ingredients. I tried the chocolate on the go between personal training clients.

It was pretty good. I liked the chewy texture. I did feel the hemp overpowered the chocolate a little and I would have preferred something sweeter. Or more bitter dark chocolate tasting, but I’m a chocolate snob (Remember I hail from Europe, we make good chocolate!) so take that into consideration. Did you know that Manitoba Harvest have a contest right now? Details below, go to instagram or twitter to enter!

Tag @manitobaharvest and use the hashtag #fuelledbyhemp to be automatically entered to WIN your favourite hemp food product each month. You may also be featured on our social steam. Good luck! Please note – Our monthly draw is open to anyone submitting photos that is over the age of 18, residing in either Canada or the United States and that does not work for Manitoba Harvest (currently or previously). No purchase necessary. More details

Manitoba Harvest also gave us a coupon code for you to get 15% off at their website, just use the the discount code hhbarlaunch1015 on checkout.

Then flash forward a few days and BAM I end up sidelined on the couch with flu. Wow this was a doozy, well it still is. I am still completely congested with sinus/head pressure and still battling a cough. Not afraid to admit that this virus kicked my ass.

As soon as I could breathe again a little I managed to get some work down online so time to try the other Hemp Heart Bar I think! This one was the apple and cinnamon and out of the two bars I received this one was definitely my favorite. Nice sweetness that really pairs well with the hemp. Plus I need those healthy Omegas to help combat this flu. Again, nice and chewy and as the only thing I could taste anymore was sweet things this Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart Bar was just the ticket for an afternoon snack.

Again you can use the code hhbarlaunch1015 on their website for 15% off, but in the interests of saving YOU my lovely friends some pennies I checked out Amazon and there is a better deal on Amazon right now. Again – full disclosure: that’s an Amazon affiliate link but hey I’m saving YOU money my friends. Because a healthy wallet is just as important as a healthy body.

So have you tried any hemp snacks?

I love hemp hearts and add them to everything, especially to homemade granola bars. But when I don’t have time to make my own, this looks like a great snack on the go.

Ha! A chocolate snob. 🙂 I am not too picky with my chocolate. I am intrigued by the idea of a hemp bar and am interested to try it.
