Review: Vegetable Delight

Saturday night generally is “Date Night” for us. For us date night isn’t about cinema or anything like that, we much prefer to watch a movie at home when possible, but it IS about the food! We’re foodies and recently we frequented Vegetable Delight, a restaurant we haven’t been to in over a year! We had bought take out a couple of times but to dine in it’s been a while. So since it’s been ages I decided to take pics and do a little review 🙂

Vegetable Delight is a restaurant serving chinese and japanese vegetarian food. The restaurant has parking up front on the street with more parking spaces at the back. Whilst the restaurant is small we went on a Saturday night and it wasn’t too busy. We got the choice of a few tables and opted for one near the back. We’ve been before but it’s been a while so after perusing the menu for new items we decided on the Complete Dinner (A). This  a great value! Choice of soup, starters, main dish, rice and dessert just add $5.50 to your main dish price (making ours around $13 per person!).

As always while you wait there is hot tea available! I love the tea they have here and it’s the only time I drink a LOT of tea. Both of us love the tea and we managed to sup our way through the whole teapot of tea throughout our dining experience.

For our soups we chose Hot and Sour soup! It’s something we ALWAYS get at Vegetable Delight as it’s delicious. When we’ve done takeout we’ve got a BIG tub of soup. Great if you are suffering from a cold/flu! The hot and sour soup is great and I loved these style bowls so much we bought our own at a local Asian market a few years ago. Just for take out!

As we were finishing up our soup the other starters arrived. For dinner A you get a veggie shrimp, spring roll and choice of either paper wrapped chicken or drumstick, trust me and get the drumstick! It’s a Cauldron Food style drumstick and delicious! The starters are served with Plum sauce and another sauce, sometimes it’s been horseradish but this time they bought out another one and Bob tried it, I stuck with the plum sauce as I love it!

The veggie shrimp is made from rice and my least favorite of the three… the drumstick and spring roll vie for first place 😉 Both are equally scrumptious in their own right but for me on this occasion the spring roll was rocking my world 🙂 As we were licking our fingers from the drumstick the main courses arrived. At any restaurant you go to you are bound to find favorite dishes. Mine is Veggie Lamb and Bob likes the sizzling steak.

Sizzling Steak – or what was left by the time I thought to photograph it!

As always Bob and I eat family style, Put the main courses in the middle and just dish out what you want from both plates. We also opted for brown rice (they remember us every time we go, despite it being a LONG time since our last visit!). I love the veggies, cooked to perfection! Bob always surprises me by eating lots of veggies too!

After we eat what we want from the main course, saving some for leftovers the next day, we choose our dessert. For me it’s Cherry Choc Chip Soy Ice Cream. Bob has the mango sorbet. I have to say that Trader Joes sells a comparable cherry choc chip non-dairy ice cream and I cannot buy it because I would eat the whole tub in a week! It’s THAT good! Love the chunks of cherry and chocolate! Devine!

This scoop is perfect for cleansing the palate after the spicy food, and as you start eating the check comes with your fortune cookie! And let me say that fortune cookie plus this ice cream = YUMMY! After we finished Bob said that we need to come more often and not wait so long next time! I agree… maybe we need to work through the menu? I love the complete dinner and Bob suggested we go once  a month so we should be through the menu sometime in 2018 because they have a TON of things on their menu… plus they started doing vegan sushi too which I have NEVER tried! So look for more on Vegetable Delight soon!

If you are a vegetarian in the local area around Granada Hills (Los Angeles) I definitely suggest trying Vegetable Delight!
