Happy Monday! I’m trying to be chipper and upbeat even though the weekend is over, though it rained ALL WEEKEND here in Southern California so not much was done this weekend. I did manage to get our home gym organized but I’ll post more on that later this week. What I thought I’d share today is a product review of this Chicken-less salad from Trader Joes. You KNOW that TJs is my favorite place to shop and I like to try their new vegan options so I snapped one of these up when I saw them in store.
Firstly a disclaimer that I’ve NEVER had chicken salad so I can’t really compare this to a meat product. Plus honestly it’s been over 20 years since I had meat so I wouldn’t remember if it tasted anything like the “real deal” anyways! This salad looked yummy in the container and that was good enough for me to want to try it! Nutrition wise it’s not the healthiest of products but hey, it’s a prepared salad what did you expect right? This is NOT something you should be eating every day anyway!
You can see it has a serving size of 1/2 cup at 230 calories, and a whopping 17g of fat!!!! You can also see that it contains 14g of protein so it IS at least protein packed with Soy and Wheat protein. I wish it stated if it was non gmo soy, or they made it with organic soy but it doesn’t state on the package so I’m assuming it’s regular soy. I prepared a bed of leafy greens, and other salad veggies, dumped my 1/2 cup of salad on top of called my lunch done!
I have to say it tasted pretty good! The “chicken” tasted like the Beyond Meat chicken-less strips. The salad was sweet and tangy at the same time, and smooth, you could definitely taste the oils! Honestly a little too oily for my tastes, but it was tasty all the same. I won’t be buying it on a regular basis because one serving has 1/3 of my daily sodium! Even for a “regular person” this product contains 1/5 of your daily sodium! As an occasional treat this is fine but for me personally this isn’t something I’ll be buying very often at all.
Any questions just ask!

Pretty sure it’s non-GMO soy: http://www.traderjoes.com/about/customer-updates-responses.asp?i=4
