Review – Follow Your Heart – New menu items!

October 14, 2013 //  by Di Hickman//  2 Comments

meatless-monday-500

Today’s Meatless Monday focus’s on a favorite restaurant of ours Follow Your Heart in Canoga Park. We hadn’t been there in a while then suddenly it was our favorite place to go again because of a few new menu items!

2013-FYH-menu

There has always been a wide selection on the FYH menu from italian and indian to subs, salads and sandwiches; but now they have a whole different vegan attitude with vegan mac’n’cheese, spanakopita and pot pie to name just a few! Prior to this visit I tried the spanikopita which was nice but a friend had the pot pie and both Bob and I looked on enviously!

First up though is soup! The entrees come with side salad or soup and I definitely recommend the soup. In the years we’ve eaten here we’ve never had a bad soup! These guys really know how to make a good homemade soup! Delicious! I think this was lentil vegetable!

Then came the main course, the ‘chick-un pot pie”. No it wasn’t gluten free but I was making an exception and willing to pay the price later 😉

This pie takes a little longer to cook but I wasn’t disappointed.

Initially I was unsure of the sides but this beet salad is DELICIOUS! They do this as a main salad and one day I may have it… it’s THAT good! We’ve been again since this trip and BOTH had the pot pie and as Bob doesn’t like beets I ate his serving too! 🙂

I gotta say this is the most delicious vegan pie EVER! Ok maybe I shouldn’t say that cos you’ll want some then next time I go it’ll be sold out! NOOOOO!

2013-FYH-pie2Photo does not do it justice. I suggest getting one between two people as it’s BIG. Just get a side or half salad or something as extras. Or if you are particularly hungry (like I was) you can eat the whole thing to yourself and then pat your big buddha belly!

Of course no trip to FYH is complete without cake. On this occasion we were full but took cake to go, and ate it later. Vegan Chocolate Raspberry cake? Yes please!

I cannot emphasize enough how much I recommend this cake!!!! As a vegan you MUST hunt this down and try it!

Have you been to FYH or tried their products?
