Ok if you’re expecting health and fitness stuff today, close the blog now and come back tomorrow. Today is all about the light of my life, my furry child, Pixel our 4 year old Dalmatian. If you’re a regular blog reader you’ll know I’m one of those type A controlling people and as such I bake for my dog. Yep I’ve baked for Sky, River and now Pixel. I’ve posted previous dog cookie recipes on my blog which you can find on my recipes page (seriously needs updating, which is on my ‘to-do list”). Today though let’s combine a *review and doggy CAKE recipe, because cookies are so last year!
Today I tried out this bone shaped silicone baking mold by K9King. As I was a little baked out on cookies I figured why not make a dog cake recipe for the blog now that I have the opportunity to bake smaller snack size cakes rather than one big cake, like he’d get for his barkday. As you can see the mold has 15 bone ‘holes’ to fill with treat mix, and each bone is around 3″x1″x1″. The silicone tray itself is 12″x10″.
[yumprint-recipe id=’8′]Using the silicone mold made things super easy! I spooned the mixture into the bone holes, then placed in the oven at 425° for 25 minutes. Boom done! The little cakes came easily away from the mold and yes I spilled some mixture outside the holes but as this mold is silicone it just lifted straight off and clean up was a breeze!
The bottom of the cakes have the bone detail on them which is fun. They were fluffy with a crusty exterior kinda like bread… However my quickly 15 turned to 14 as this guy wanted to try them straight away!
He’s since eaten two today! Ok 1 1/2. I admit I tried half. It wasn’t bad! What? Those ingredients are all suitable for humans, so why not? The banana really helps with the sweetness as they had no added sugar. A lesson to us all there I think? Anyway these cakes got the slobber of approval from Pixel. Plus the silicone baking mold has two thumbs up from the chef! I could also use this tray for frozen treats, and confectionery so I’ll be sharing more doggy recipes soon!
