Race day photos – does anybody buy theirs?

March 12, 2014 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

Ok it’s workout Wednesday and I have a genuine question: Does anyone buy their race day photos? I have to say I’ve not bought any… yet. We got a deal previously for some free photos and I definitely took advantage of that but I have to say that I haven’t been overly impressed with any of my race day photo’s until now! I can’t be too upset I guess as the local “Gator Run ” used my pic on their flier for 2 years!

But really, that’s an awful pic right? It doesn’t look very athletic. Then there is this one which isn’t very athletic either, but fun looking. This was at the Great Race in Agoura, Bobs first 5k!

Then there are ones that prove you have a big mouth… and sweaty armpits… Though I think my legs look fantastic here!

Then there are the race photos that look cool but you get lost in the sea of runners in the background.

So then you try biking and trying to look cool on a bike, and fail! Good thing is that it’s not close up so no-one can see your face.

It’s also a good job that there is no such thing as audio on the races yet as most of the time I’m talking to myself and the bike, and usually my legs telling them to keep going. My mantra lately during runs is “the body achieves what the mind believes”. If I believe I can do it, I will!

Keep smiling Di, you might end up with a semi-decent photo…  Seriously though I will say I’ve had WAY worse race pics but I will not be sharing those! The first year I started running I had some truly terrible photos where I look like I’m in severe pain (I was). Now I’m more conscious of where the cameramen are and try to put on a semi decent face for the camera.

Sometimes though my general awkwardness just shines through!

I will say that the March 2014 duathlon bike photo’s are pretty good! I like them. I liked my February bike photos too. For the first time since 2010 I’m actually considering BUYING race photos! I like to think I look pretty athletic here. (Ignore the cleavage, it was damn HOT Sunday morning!)

I also decided that I like the booty shorts look on the bike over the capri/cycling short length. I just love my legs here. I’m not smiling btw this was when I actually noticed the cameraman when I was going past him! The wind was horrible and I was doing my best to PUSH my legs through it.

The finish I was just focused on getting across the finish line to think about a race pic was second. It took great effort to finish that run, resisting the temptation to walk!

Recently though I have to say I’ve been much happier with my race day photos and I’ll be purchasing my first set 🙂 I will say that I love that they offer digital files now, I just wish they were a little cheaper! I know the Santa Barbara Pix photos are affordable, but some places charge $15-25 for a digital file! That’s all kinds of crazy IMO!

So that’s my question today: Do you buy your race day photos?
