One little word – 2014

December 24, 2013 //  by Di Hickman//  1 Comment

For the last seven years I’ve been picking a word that encompasses what I want from life in the upcoming year. It’s a word that reflects focus for the year, thoughts, hopes and goals. Past years words have been: Focus; Change; Adapt; Balance; Achieve; Grow. For 2013 I chose the word Challenge. My original intent was for it to push me to achieve more, to get out my comfort zone, finish projects and try new things. However life decided to turn my word on it’s head and issue challenges of it’s own. In January we experienced grief over the loss of Bobs Mum. River passed away a few days later. February and March we battled horrendous flu/colds that we hadn’t really got rid of in December. August was my kidneys and basically the whole year was fraught with health problems, time constraints and other challenges. So for 2014 I wanted something that was a 180 of 2013. A year of growth and prosperity, a year which we would flourish and LIVE. I’ve chosen THRIVE.

THRIVE Definition:

1: to grow vigorously : flourish
2: to gain in wealth or possessions : prosper
3: to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances —often used with on <thrives on conflict>

I was playing around with other words but this one seemed to resonate with me this year. As a challenging year 2013 was, it wasn’t all bad but I felt like the word itself had negative connotations I didn’t think about. Thrive is uplifting, it’s moving forward, onward and upward.

For 2014 I decided to give myself a gift. With the money I earned from earndit this year I signed up for the year long workshop with Ali Edwards. I no longer scrapbook persay (other than Project Life pages each week) so this is more a blog prompt or journaling prompt for me. I may do the occasional page but really it’s an accountability issue. Ali will be sending out monthly emails, prompts, videos etc, and we have a private facebook group. The workshop is $31 but there is $5 off till the end of Dec, so sign up now for the discount. I’m excited to see what this brings for 2014.

Ironically after I signed up I received this in the mail…

lornajane-diary-2014-1

It’s a diary from Lorna Jane. I haven’t looked at it thoroughly (I don’t want to spoil the surprises!) but leafing through I know it’s going to be an accountability journal of sorts for my OLW THRIVE in 2014. Weird how things work out…. I was looking for a way to reconnect daily with my word and this lands on my doorstep! There are motivational images, inspirational quotes, recipes, challenges, health & fitness tips and more in this diary. At over and inch thick and bright PINK I won’t be losing it anytime soon either 😉 My ‘plan’ is to write each day how my word has/hasn’t impacted my day and use the prompts as journaling jumping points. I don’t mind it getting dog eared or messy as I add pages, notes, and ticket stubs to the pages. It’s going to document my year of THRIVING!

I’ll also be sharing  my OLW pages of interest in my weekly project life posts.

Are you joining in one little word for 2014? What’s your word?

**disclaimer: Lorna Jane sent me this product for free but the thoughts and opinions are my own**
