Olympic Inspired Spinning Playlist

February 22, 2014 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

winter olympics cold funny

Long time no spin playlist? Well I’m back on track and this week I decided that since Valentines day has been and gone I figured that was pointless posting now so onto another theme, the winter olympics! I wanted something that would appeal to all ages, and offer something for any playlist afterwards. This playlist runs about an hour, if your classes are 45 mins feel free to play with things a little 🙂 Personally I’d take out the slower climbs: Gold and Epic… but that’s cos my class likes the faster dancier tunes. Scroll down for an iTunes link to the complete playlist (aside from tracks 2-3 which weren’t available!)

Game On – Pitbull: Fun song that was originally for the World Cup I think, but it works for this too! Flat easy spin for fun warm up. Amazon/iTunes

Push Push – Falco: For some reason iTunes doesn’t have this and it’s a shame. There is this one on iTunes but it’s not the version I have 🙁 There are some definite lack of obscure songs on iTunes. For this I just did pushes in each position increasing the resistance a little, keep the tempo but increase the tension. The karaoke version is available on Amazon but not the falco version! Hard to get European music on US websites huh!

Kalinka – Various: Ok I put various as there are so many remixes out there. The one I have is off BodyCombat 46 but there is a great version available on itunes including this one for cycle and this one for cardio boxing. It’s just a fun something that’s Russian based to honor Sochi as they host the winter Olympics. Just a push in out of the saddle, easy tempo. Tons of Amazon remixes available

Are you ready for this – 2 unlimited. The mix I have is by Friday night posse: Take the tension down a little and after 35 seconds head into 20s sprints. Couldn’t find this on iTunes or Amazon 🙁

Don’t stop believin’ – Journey: Climb! In the saddle, out the saddle, just add on the tension and climb 🙂 Don’t stop! Amazon/iTunes

Never give up – ATB: Tempo ride! Find a medium tension and just go… Amazon/iTunes

Gold – Spandau Ballet: Start seated with medium tension, in the chorus add then come into third for a push. As an aside this is one of Bobs favorite Karaoke songs 🙂 Amazon/iTunes

Epic – Faith No More: I love this song, rock out hardcore. It’s slower so time to get some hard heavy tension and climb the damn hills! Amazon/iTunes

Don’t Stop me now – Queen: after the heavy hill, take the tension down 1/2 way for a while while Freddie sings. Then at 30 seconds take it down and speed the hell up! Sprints optional! Amazon/iTunes

The edge of glory – Lady Gaga: 30% resistance for a rolling hill climb. Adding every chorus to 50%, then down in the verse for 30%. Amazon/iTunes

Get Lucky – Daft Punk: I see how the class is doing to decide what to do here. Maybe a last climb or jumps 😉 I like jumps and the tempo is good for it! Either way add a little tension 30-50% and go. Amazon/iTunes

Such a shame – Crew 7: I like to take it down gradually so for this song just reduce the tension every 45 seconds or so till you’re just spinning on the flat and cooling down. Amazon/iTunes

Stronger – Kelly Clarkson: Stretch! I see stretching being skipped in a lot of spinning classes. Flexibility is important folks!!!!! Amazon/iTunes

As you’ll see this is a big big of generation, genre and speeds. When creating a theme playlists you should try to make it as varied as possible. I have music in here that’s pop, classic rock, remixes,  rap (ish), and dance. The music spans the generations from 1980’s to 2013! I looked to see if there was an Abba dance remix of winner takes it all so I could include the 1970’s too 😉 Alas the one I found I really didn’t like, ah well.

Hope you at least find one song useful for your spinning classes, and let me know your thoughts in the comments! Happy spinning!
