My first Vegan Cuts Beauty Box – unboxing and review

June 21, 2015 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

vegan cuts may 2015 beauty box review

I’ve mentioned in other posts that one of my goals this year is to convert some of my existing products to cruelty free, vegan, environmentally friendly versions. I’d seen Vegan Cuts boxes on social media for a while and decided to finally take the plunge and try them out. My first box was waiting for me when I got home from the lake in May and I’m only just now getting around to posting about it, and editing the video I made. Life has been kinda busy, and I got the notification that my JUNE box was on the way so I figured time to get myself organized and get the May one reviewed!

If you haven’t heard of Vegan Cuts, they have a monthly subscription service where they deliver boxes of vegan, cruelty free products to your door to try out. Currently there is the snack box and the beauty box.  Each box is just $19.95 which includes shipping within the USA. The beauty box features 4-7 new products each box including skincare and cosmetics. Some of the products may be trial sizes while others may be full size products. All are 100% cruelty free, vegan, mostly organic and natural, and paraben-free. Basically everything I’m looking to switch to 😉 And no I’m not sponsored by Vegan Cuts, or receive any incentives. I bought the box myself because I’m vegan and love vegan products and vegan companies.

In the box is a post card of all the products in the box that month, with descriptions of each product, price value, company website and social media information for each product. I really liked this as I was able to tag a couple of the companies on instagram who responded to my post. There was also a couple of business cards for the companies with discount codes for future purchases of their products.

In this box were four full size products worth $61 in total!!! This included a lipstick, eye cream, eye shadow and bath salts. I LOVED everything except the bath salts. I don’t take baths generally but especially as here in California we are in the middle of a super extreme mega-drought. I did approach the ladies at Vegan Cuts regarding this and they assured me that bath products are included rarely. I hope so to because as vegans we should be encouraging people to be environmentally conscious where possible. Speaking of which the box and packaging was all recyclable! Bonus.

I loved the lipstick by Pacifica. I’d been meaning to try Pacifica for a while so was super excited to see their lipstick in the box. It’s so creamy, and the color I received is the color of the box. Is that something they do or just coincidence? It smelled lovely too! This alone is a $15 value!

vegan cuts may 2015 beauty box review athara eye cream

My favorite product from the box was the Athara Moroccan Coffee Eye Cream. $25 for this, so already the box paid for itself and then some. I’ve used this eye cream for the last 3 weeks and LOVE IT! It’s doesn’t smell overpoweringly of coffee (I don’t like the smell of coffee), and it works too! My skin feels softer and I think my laughter lines are reduced. Eye creams are always expensive so this was a bargain getting it in the beauty box!

Then there is an eyeshadow by Lauren Brooke worth $12. Even without the bath salts I’ve come out ahead of the game! This eye shadow is very pigmented and when I used it the pigment transferred well to my eyes. I didn’t clump on the applicator. Loved it!

So what did I do with the bath salts? After three weeks thinking I might use them in a foot bath I finally found a use for them! They make a great deodorizer for the garbage can! I simply tied the string to the inside of the kitchen trash bin and BOOM no more smells. Kitchen smells way better too! At least it was better than throwing it away 😉 I did a video review which you can check out below, or on my workoutwithdi youtube channel

All in all super happy with the first Vegan Cuts beauty box and can’t wait to get Junes box!!! The sneak peek of the June beauty box is online and on the Vegan Cuts youtube channel and so far all I know is it contains an Emani brow liner worth $20 and Schmidts natural deodorant sample. I’m excited about both and can’t wait to see what else is in there! See you for another vegan cuts beauty box review and unboxing soon!
