Meatless Monday: Review – Woodlands – Indian Vegetarian Cuisine

Woodlands is a Vegetarian Indian restaurant located at 9840 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Unit A, Chatsworth, CA 91311. It’s on the way to a few of our favorite veg places in the valley so we drive past it often. We’ve been a handful of times and almost exclusively to the buffet. I like a good buffet as I usually get chance to try new things that I wouldn’t normally try off a menu for fear of not liking it. On a buffet I can try a little and see if I like it 😉 The buffet at Woodlands is on Wednesdays 6.30pm – 9.30pm but be warned it is BUSY!!!! Expect a wait.

The buffet is lined up along the rear wall and open plan from left to right starting with your appetizers and ending with dessert. One change they have recently made is that they now list all the VEGAN options on the placecards above the items. This has made things MUCH easier for me, though some of the other dishes they do could easily be made vegan I’m sure. Part of the buffet includes unlimited dosa. If you haven’t had a dosa before they are savory rice crepes filled with spicy potato goodness. Bob ADORES dosa. There are many types available but we opt for the mysore masala dosa which is a little spicier.

The buffet is pretty good and southern Indian so a focus on coconut, and more plant based dishes. My vegan plate looks a little bland, but I’m loving the lentil/dal dishes lately and this yellow dal was great. I did have a second plate with a few other things too 😉 Like I said, good chance to try new things!

Bob has a plate full with different curries, chutneys, naan and vada.

All in all we love Dosa but the buffet night is SUPER busy and honestly not worth the wait. Whilst we both love Indian food and try to support vegetarian/vegan restaurants this place is just super busy. We’ve been non-buffet nights and it’s still busy then. If you’re wanting vegetarian food it’s definitely worth a visit, but honestly the food is better at Royal Delhi Palace a little further into the valley. RDP isn’t veggie but they do a bunch of veg dishes and are super veg friendly and their lunch buffet is now a lot cheaper at under $8! If you like south Indian cuisine Woodlands is worth the trip, if you’re used to regular North Indian cuisine then save yourself the wait and try somewhere else.

I like how you get a dish that has different size places to put stuff in like that, was it hot enough though

Thats the plates they have there. You can buy them though at some places. It wasn’t hot no, buffets generally aren’t very hot.
