Meatless Monday Review: So Delicious CocoWhip

February 16, 2015 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

SO Delicious cocowhip review

Over the holidays we had our Tofurkey Roast which this year we got from Whole Foods and opted for the ‘feast’. Which included the roast, savory gravy, wishstix and organic chocolate cake. These were a bargain over the holidays under $20 and though it ‘serves 6’ let me just tell ya that the roast might serve 6 but there is NOT enough gravy for 6 people. The wishstix are kinda pointless too, we gave ours to the dogs.

Now I like vegan chocolate cake as much as the next girl, but this is the holidays and that cake needed some ooomph so searching round whole foods for a dessert topping I find this is the frozen aisle. Call it a coconut alternative to cool whip! Dairy free, soy free, verified non-gmo, certified gluten free and certified vegan. Why not? It practically begged me to take it home to try.

There are no trans fats, no hydrogenated oils and no high fructose corn syrup. This isn’t something I’d have everyday… but like I said Holidays and special occasions. Plus I LOVE coconut flavored things so this was gonna be a hit right?

Before we get into taste let’s just say a WTF for the serving size… TWO tablespoons? Who uses two tablespoons? Thankfully that’s only 30 calories (half of which are fat) but seriously a ‘real’ serving is more like three to four times that amount, so no way I was getting 22 servings from this container. An HONEST servings per container would probably be around eight to ten, so plan accordingly.

Directions were to thaw for 4 hours in refrigerator. Once opened it would last for 10 days and CAN be refrozen. I missed that part originally and ended up eating this for a week straight with fruit and other items as I thought I had to use it in a few days like regular dairy cream. Next time READ the directions Di! Again as you can see more than two tablespoons here:-

It had the consistency of whipped cream or cool whip, and it tasted like cool whip but with a coconut flavor to it. It was actually really good, too good. I enjoyed it thoroughly on Thanksgiving, and for days afterwards when I had it with fruit. It went really well with sliced bananas!!! In all I really liked it, and would definitely buy it again for special occasions.
