Meatless Monday: Potato Ricer Review

May 11, 2015 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

priority chef potato ricer review

You know you see a kitchen item on a cooking program and you think “what a great idea, I need one of those”! Well I saw something recently that I thought “hey Di ask to review that product!” so I did, and here I am reviewing this potato ricer by Priority Chef. A what? Yep a potato ricer. This tool makes easy mashed potatoes for eating with dinner, topping on pies, or using in recipes like hash browns.

So first up you get the potato ricer in a box. Into the ricer you place your whole boiled potatoes. I have a tutorial/recipe coming on cooking potatoes in the pressure cooker, and for the item I’m using these potatoes for! So shove a few pieces of potato into the well. You can see the holes at the bottom where the potato will mash through.

Excuse the dopey face 😉 I’m concentrating!

Then just close the handles together, and look underneath and what looks like potato worms squeezing out the bottom! It’s pretty easy to use, if you struggle to use a regular mash tool this would be easier. I overloaded the well the first time I used it and I still managed to squeeze it ok. It’d be even easier if you had bigger hands 😉 Heck even a cooking-challenged person could do this!

End result: Some fluffy potato rice, which with a simple push of a finger (ok use a spool or spatula if you’re feeding other people) whips into a lump-free mash. Honestly it was super easy and WAY smoother than my regular attempts at mashed potato. Plus no oils, fats or butter needed, which means it’s MUCH healthier for you!

One other thing is that I don’t peel potatoes, I wash em and cook em with the skins on. I figured it’s more fiber. Well imagine my surprise when I opened the potato ricer after to find skins! It’s basically peeling the potatoes as they go through. BONUS!

All in all I loved it! I used it in my recipe, that I’ll share soon, and I think it’s gonna make a great addition to my kitchen tools. I will say that it’d be perfect for RVs, and I plan on taking it with us on our next trip! Definite thumbs up for the potato ricer!

*I received this product for free in exchange for a review. As always opinions expressed are my own because I tell it like it is, and keep shit real!
