Meatless Monday – Review: Greek House Cafe

We like greek food. We’ve visited Greek islands and love the vegetarian dishes we had there, and hummus is a weekly staple on our grocery shopping list! So we decided a few weeks ago to try the Greek House Cafe in our little city.

The cafe is located in a small strip mall and has plenty of free parking outside. The cafe itself is a small place, plastic tables and wooden chairs giving a cafe flair. It’s not a restaurant for sure, it’s cheap and cheerful they are going for here. You order at the counter and the order # is called and you pick it up at the counter, no frills… I like it 🙂 I ordered the felafel plate: 3 large felafel served with fries or rice and salad.

When it came I had 4 felefal (yay! I love felafel) with my fries and salad and a little container of hummus on the side. I was annoyed that the salad came with crumbled feta though. Being vegan now I do not eat feta and so the salad was not an option for me. In hindsight I should have asked for no feta, as it IS a greek place afterall. I’m just used to the greek place I go to having no feta on salads.

The felafel were dry and needed the hummus to liven them up. The fries were pretty salty too, but all in all an enjoyable meal for a rushed lunch whilst out and about on a Saturday. I’m not sure I’d rush back in a hurry. Frankly the frozen felafel at Trader Joes are pretty good and much cheaper…. but if we’re out one lunchtime and stuck I would eat there again for sure… just I’d ask for no feta this time!
