BIG NEWS! We’ve been keeping secrets from everyone and were trying to find a good way to let everyone know but failed. Then earlier this week Bob coined the term “Yanksgiving’ and I thought it was awesome and appropriate, so here is the big news of 2013!
Since the beginning of this year we’ve been secretly plotting, filling in copious amounts of paperwork, attending interviews all to participate in a ceremony in September… so we could become U.S. Citizens 🙂 September 27th Bob and I finally got to swear in as citizens and receive our naturalization certificates. We attended a HUGE ceremony in Los Angeles with over 4500 other people.
Obviously a selfie was super important at this momentous occasion! They give you the flags btw, though we have one or two of our own at home 🙂
After the ceremony you have to go back to the assigned desk and give up your greencard in exchange for your naturalization certificate. You walk in a resident alien and walk out American!
Afterwards we went out to celebrate with good American food, Red Robin, burger and fries. Which meant we got to change out of our fancy clothes and into something more comfortable. Shades and USA t-shirt seemed appropriate 🙂
That’s also the reason we visited the Reagan Library in October, for the photo’s! Come on you know you want to chant: USA USA USA!
I even made a scrapbook page to commemorate the event!
So HAPPY YANKSGIVING! Have an extra drink for us today to celebrate!

This is awesome! Congratulations to you!
Margaret
Congratulations on the decision to change your citizenship. One of my co-workers years ago was naturalized from Mexican citizenship to US. I told her that she needed to frame the naturalization certificate; that it was her “american” birth certificate!!! Whie the US isn’t perfect, it’s a pretty great place to live. And congrats on choosing your college major. Knowledge is ALWAYS a good thing.
