Fall Mish Mash Spinning Playlist

November 20, 2015 //  by Di Hickman//  29 Comments

So I really wanted to get a spinning playlist done for Thanksgiving and be all themed and kickass. But, I wasn’t feeling it. I’m not really feeling fall either. I’m not sure if it’s the weather, the post vacation blues, the tragedies happening in the World, or just a lack of seasonal spirit but I’m in a “can’t decide what music to play” mood. This happens to me a lot as I am drawn to so many different types of music. Yeah I know everyone says that right? “Oh, my music taste is SO eclectic”. Well I’m going to share my Pandora music channels:

pandora music

See? Can anyone else relate? I run through so many the genres from punk, thrash metal, hip hop/rap, pop, instrumental, classic, techno, electronic, dance, goth, rock, children’s music (BTW: I don’t have kids… no joke I love listening to the Disney channel and sing my heart out to Frozen and the Little Mermaid – don’t judge me), music for yoga, oh and Musicals! I love a good musical! Anyway what I’m saying is that during these times of indecision making a playlist is tough. So what do I do? I look for new music. I went to look at the top 10 in USA, then UK, and Europe, new releases and got some new tunes and mixed it all in with other stuff for a mish mash of stuff that pretty much matches the mish mash of feelings I have right now. So I’m calling this the MISH MASH spinning playlist, just go with it ok.

FALL 2015 MISH MASH SPINNING PLAYLIST

As a reminder I have other playlists available including this Summer themed playlist, Halloween and more. Feel free to share, this post. Celebration – Madonna   [iTunes / Amazon]

I may be late on the train with this one, but it’s taken a while to really grow on me. I used to love Madonna in my teens and early twenties but since Music I’ve kinda fell out of love with her. I maybe need to listen to a few of the newer albums again. Anyway this is a nice warm up track, plus it’s short and sweet at 3 1/2 minutes.

We are family (AR Remix) – Groovy 69   [iTunes / Amazon]

Ok more warming up, this time we’re coming out the saddle and ready to add a little resistance. Bump up to around 30% resistance and come out of the saddle in chorus. This will get the class jumping, singing and ready to sweat!

Alone No More – Philip George & Anton Powers   [iTunes / Amazon]

Increase the resistance to around 50% and come back down in the saddle for this short and sweet 3 minute climb in the saddle. Here’s where you need to coach the upcoming climb, focus on tempo.

Ain’t Nobody – Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson   [iTunes / Amazon]

I admit I have a love/hate thing with this track. This song originally by Chaka Khan is “our song”. It brings back memories of meeting Bob and rollerskating. I like that the song is different and not a direct rip off of the original so I’ll give it a pass for that. I love Jasmine’s soft melodic voice. This is climb with 70% resistance out of the saddle in third. Against short and sweet, 3 minute climb.

Easy Love – Sigala   [iTunes / Amazon]

After almost 10 minutes of increasing resistance time for a break and another remix! This is a Jackson 5 remix, rehash and I love it. Happy, poppy, and a nice tempo for pedaling with low resistance and higher RPMs. Maybe 20-30% resistance but increase the speed to around 110 rpm.

Don’t Worry – Madcon ft. Ray Dalton   [iTunes / Amazon]

Boost up the resistance to 50% and do intervals in and out the saddle. Also works for jumps if that’s your thing. Love songs that are multipurpose! Kinda fun song, don’t worry a thing, just pedal!

Any way you want it – Journey   [iTunes / Amazon]

Classic! After a few remixes, and newer songs, your gen-x crowd with need something familiar and this is it. I always say to include something for ALL age groups in your playlist, you want one song that everyone can relate to. So I give you Journey! Classic right? Plus it just flows nicely from the last few tracks. Sit down and push through climb at 50-60% however it’s a little quicker than the previous track so you’ll need to huff and puff your way through the 3 1/2 minute track. I like to speed up a little during the chorus (20s burst).

Wildest Dreams (R3hab radio edit) – Taylor Swift   [iTunes / Amazon]

I admit that until about a year ago I didn’t like Taylor Swift, then I found remixes. Yay! This one is fun, gives the song a pop beat, with a ‘push’ feel to it. So add resistance to around 70-80% and come up out the saddle into third and climb your way to your wildest dreams!

Can’t feel my face – The Weekend   [iTunes** / Amazon]

Honestly I first heard this and thought “what?” but I guess it’s about the guy being delirious in love, smiling so much his face went numb. Sure. When I smile that much my face hurts dude! Ever laughed so much you get cheek cramp? Maybe just me then? Anyways, add more resistance, yes really, and come DOWN into the saddle for a seated climb. **original version -remix unavailable

Don’t be so hard on yourself – Jess Glynne   [iTunes / Amazon]

Time to let go a little, just little! So bring the resistance down, maybe around 60% total on the flywheel. Then it’s intervals all out the saddle. Going from second to third, around 30 second pushes. Then finish in the saddle.

It’s my party – Jessie J   [iTunes / Amazon]

If you did the last track correctly you’ll be in the saddle. Stay there for the first verse, and reduce the resistance to around 30%, then up and easy for the chorus. Repeat. It’s not rocket science, it’s Jesse J.

Hey Brother – Avicii   [iTunes / Amazon]

I still love this, so sue me. It just needed to be on here. Reduce the resistance just a tad more. Maybe 20% total. Then we play with speed. FEEL the tempo… start around 80 rpm, then increase to 90, 100, 110 and finish with 120. Repeat this a few times from verse (90) to chorus (120).

What Do you mean? – Justin Bieber   [iTunes / Amazon]

Ok this is the first time I’ve had Justin Bieber on a playlist. Not a fan, but I like this for a slow climb in the saddle. So do that. Add resistance to around 70% and around 70 rpm. It’s prep for the next and last climb…

Renegades – X Ambassadors   [iTunes / Amazon]

Firstly add resistance, heavy, heavy, heavy here! Maybe around 90% for a climb so steep you’re afraid of it. But remind the class it’s only 3 minutes! Add that resistance then come up out the saddle to push through in third for your last leg killer climb.

Peanut Butter Jelly – Galantis   [iTunes / Amazon]

After the last two slow tracks, this playlist needed some fun to finish it off and the next 12 minutes gives you that. For this one take the resistance down to 20% and spin, spin, spin. In the upbeat music increase your rpms for a sprint. You’ll want to move if you did the last climb at 90%!

Time of our lives – Pitbull & Ne Yo   [iTunes / Amazon]

Ok time to cool down. First stay in the saddle then alternate through all three positions. At 2:30 you’ll hear a slow part and I take the resistance all the way down here. Emphasize that the class just worked their ass off (in the lyrics). This is poppy and fun. Just what you need in a cool down.

Happy – Pharell Williams   [iTunes / Amazon]

I still love this, just as much as I still love “Despicable me 2“, and Minions! Oh I LOVE the Minions! I’m  going to see The Good Dinosaur on Thanksgiving and I can’t wait. Remember I mentioned how many kids I have? Yup none! I choose to see these because they are freakin funny. Time to stretch your class members and finish with a smile! This song adds that happy feel upbeat, you want the class to leave on. Plus it’ll make them think of Minions, which has to make you grin from ear to ear!

[tweetthis]#spinning class made easy with this fall #music playlist by @workoutwithdi #workout[/tweetthis]

So that’s my fall playlist and though I spent ages looking for new music, a few new tracks sparked the whole playlist with the addition of some older and existing tracks. If you don’t already have Happy or Journey then shame on you! If you are an instructor I hope you find at least one or two tracks you can use. Let me know in the comments and remember to share the love, by sharing the playlist.

So I want to know:

What’s your favorite CURRENT song?

What’s your favorite song of all time?

I have a varied taste in music as well. I am with you on the 80s pop – those songs are ideal for workouts! It’s hard for me choose a favorite song of all-time. As for current tunes….nearly anything by The Weeknd.
