Lessons from 2021 – the journey of one year

December 30, 2021 //  by Di Hickman

As I look back at 2021 all I can say is wow! What a journey. It had ups and downs, heartbreak and happiness, and tons of lessons learned. In the beginning of the year, I planned to do my usual New Years' post, sharing my word of the year. But for some reason, I just never got around to finishing the post. I shared it with my email list, but my word for 2021 was Journey. Looking back it's easy to see the journey unfold, like the story of a book. Truthfully, for most of 2021, the word I really …

Bird Coloring Page Printable for Adults – Freebie

August 1, 2021 //  by Di Hickman

Last month, a pair of finches decided our porch light was the perfect place to set up home for a while. When Bob left for his work trip there were four eggs. 16 days later when he came back, the nest was empty. They'd hatched, fledged, and left. The last 14 days of seeing these chicks hatch, and growing from blind alien-like beings to curious (and ravenous) chicks have been a valuable lesson about our current life situation. And also the inspiration for this month's Bird Coloring Page …

Independence Day Bookmarks – Free Coloring Page Printable

July 1, 2021 //  by Di Hickman

Anyone else in denial that it's July already? Seriously... what the heck! As 4th of July celebrations loom this weekend, I get asked the typical "what are you doing for the fourth?". My answer is a quiet-ish weekend at home with my husband. As an introvert that's my preferred celebration. However, this will be our last weekend together for a couple of weeks as Bob is headed to Florida on a work trip. Which means some freedom from each other. Remember we've been in lockdown together for 15 …

What is the vegan keto diet? And why am I doing it?

April 10, 2020 //  by Di Hickman

If you'd asked me a year ago about my diet I'd have declared myself a high carb vegan. As an ethical vegan I definitely indulged in as much rice, and grains as I cared to. Honestly I still feel that for many this is a great diet. However, things changed back in December and a study led me down the path of a vegan keto diet. Initially I was skeptical, but having lived it for 3 months I figured I'd share my experience. Disclaimer: Links in this post may be affiliate links. Why did I decide to …

Why I’m embracing minimalism

June 7, 2019 //  by Di Hickman

A few years ago I stumbled on "The Minimalists" TED talk. Much of what they said made sense, and a lot was what my mother practiced my whole life. If it doesn't have a use or make you happy why have it? Are you surrounded by stuff? Imagine living an intentional life, not a perfect or easy life, but a simple one. As I watched more videos, I came to a realization. Much of the things I own, actually owned me. Above all, much of what I owned did not make me happy, and was actually adding stress to …

Explore – How one word changed my outlook for 2018

December 30, 2018 //  by Di Hickman

In December 2017 when I decided my guiding word for 2018 was explore, I really had no idea what lay ahead for me and how my word would impact my life. In all I took 5 trips in 9 months. I've said yes to new exciting opportunities and adventures,  explored new relationships and experiences and been more open to trying new things. 2018 has truly been a year of travel, adventure and exploration. As the the year comes to a close, I am struck by how this year is different, how I am different. …

One Guiding Word 2018: Explore

January 1, 2018 //  by Di Hickman

Instead of setting resolutions for the New Year for the last 11 years I've chosen one guiding word to set intentions for the 12 months to come. I first started doing this is in 2007 when I was heavy into crafting and scrapbooking. I first saw the one word concept on Ali Edwards blog and immediately connected with it. My guiding word over the years have included: Focus - 2007 Change - 2008 Adapt - 2009 Balance - 2010 Achieve - 2011 Grow - 2012 Challenge - 2013 Thrive - …

One word – what did I DO in 2017?

December 31, 2017 //  by Di Hickman

At the beginning of each year I choose one word to set my intention for the year ahead. Rather than setting a ton of resolutions or firm goals one word is chosen as a theme to guide me through the year. For 2017 I chose the word "DO". I've mentioned before that sometimes the words don't always work the way you think they will, and this year was definitely one of those years. I had high hopes for 'do'. No more thinking or planning, instead just do! That was the plan, and while that …

Eating Vegan at Disneyland

June 5, 2017 //  by Di Hickman

Maybe the new title for this websites needs to be something like "Di's yoga and Disney Adventures". This is our third Disney trip this year. And, we're not even half way into the year. Though, I am totally NOT complaining! Back in January, I wrote about our Disney World adventures. Plus, I've posted before about our Disneyland trips. However, today, I want to specifically focus on eating vegan at Disneyland. Disclaimer: Links in this post may be affiliate links. Back in March we had …
