Workout Wednesday folks! Yes I’m back!!! We got back Monday from our trip to Lake Casitas and I’ll be sharing photos and  details of the trip soon but today is Wednesday which means it’s time to workout. As I’ve been de-stressing this weekend I figured why not do a yogalates workout? Yogalates for those that don’t know is a mix of yoga and pilates. I used to teach this twice a week and have gotten slack with it over the last few years and I definitely see  (and feel) a difference. Flexibility is definitely underrated in fitness! Remember if you want to get the videos straight away subscribe to my youtube channel!  The full video is below:

The sequence is done three times and starts with mountain pose and gets progressively longer each time. Mountain pose is basically standing. One big inhale reaching arms overhead and then palms together and hands at heart.

Mountain pose leads to swan dive forward, flat back, then stepping or jumping back into a plank, then chaturanga which is essentially a tricep push up. One thing I learn from these weekly workout videos is where *I* can make changes. Seeing the photo below I see my legs need to be straighter and my butt needs to be squeezed!

From chaturanga into upward dog, or if that’s too much a little baby cobra. I used to be able to get my hips down and bend my back really well! Like all things if you don’t use it you lose it!

From up dog into down dog, place the toes under, engage the core and lift the hips up. Raise the hips, push through the hands and push the chest to the thighs. Again having not done yoga for a while I definitely saw I’d lost flexibility. Guess who’s planning more yoga in her workout routine?

In the sequence I share two poses from down dog, first into one-legged down dog (below) then into a bent knee variation that really helps elongate the body and open out the hips.

From here into a three leg point plank and knee tuck. This is great core work and also helps upper body strength.

I’m shocked at how my flexibility has waned over the last year! I’ll be putting yoga back into my schedule for sure!!!

As always if you have any questions ask in the comments!
