5-minute Office Chair Yoga – Standing Flow

March 5, 2021 //  by Di Hickman//  7 Comments

So I don’t know about you but I feel like I am spending more and more time sitting. One thing that I’ve decided to do is more short movement sessions, as my Garmin reminds me to move. And I want to provide easy ways for you to do the same. So stand up away from your desk, and take 5-minutes for this office chair yoga class.

5 min standing office chair yoga class

This 5-minute yoga break is all about using the office chair as a prop to exercise and stretch. This isn’t an “in-chair” yoga workout, but a standing stretch. If you’re in an office you may get a funny look, but hey who wants to be “normal”?

If you can’t view the embedded video above, you can view the video on YouTube. Maybe add it to a playlist? Above all, remember to subscribe to my channel. New videos are uploaded every Tuesday and Friday. However, for exclusive longer format videos sign up for my Patreon community. Patrons also get early access to all my videos, along with lots of other benefits.

5 Minute office chair yoga poses

Grab yourself a sturdy chair. If you have a chair with wheels I’d suggest putting it against the wall. Honestly that’s a good idea anyways for a more stable chair. Poses included in this 5-minute office chair yoga flow include tadasana, and a half sun salutation with the chair.

One great stretch after sitting for a while is chair downward dog. Amazing stretch for the shoulders, arms, and upper back. Plus not as stressful for the wrists as a regular down dog.

Other poses included in this standing chair flow include 3-legged dog, and stepping forward into a lunge. Using the chair for some support into standing warrior 1. This is great to lengthen the hip flexors after sitting.

After repeating the flow on the other side, repeat coming into warrior 1 again. Lengthening the legs in standing enables us to fold into pyramid and then twist into revolved triangle.

The standing poses in this 5-minute office chair yoga class are great for opening up tight areas from sitting. And the movement will be invigorating to your system and allow you to head back to your desk refocused!

This is great, I forget that you don’t have to have a big long time period to be able to fit in being healthy and exercising. Thanks, you make this so simple. Mich x

This is brilliant! I spend a lot of time sitting on my office chair and definitely don’t do as much exercise or stretch as much as I should!

I like the idea of doing a few individual moves during a working day to keep the body active and an excuse to get out of the chair every so often x

Yoga is not something I have ever considered, but it looks like a great way to stretch out those muscles and become leaner.

    Thanks for Sharing
