January 28, 2022 //  by Di Hickman//  Leave a Comment

It’s Chinese New Year and it’s the year of the tiger. So embrace your inner tiger with this 20-min yoga class exploring Tiger Pose. It’s a fun pose, and can be challenging for many beginners so we’ll warm up and experience the pose gradually.

If you can’t view the embedded video above, you can view the video on YouTube. Maybe add it to a playlist? Above all, remember to subscribe to my channel. New videos are uploaded regularly. However, for exclusive longer format videos sign up for my Patreon community. Each month we explore poses, transitions, and trouble areas. Tiger Pose Yoga Flow For Beginners

This 20-minute yoga flow is perfect for beginners, or those wanting a short gentle flow. Tiger pose is a great backbend for beginners and a warm is necessary so we begin in an arch and flatten, bridges, and cat-cow.

From all fours, we then build the pose step-by-step. Adding progressions slowly. This is the way I teach so that you already know the modifications. Including bird dog to work on balance, and exploring variations from there.

While reaching the foot is the “traditional pose” it’s not mandatory, and not possible for many. Plus the interesting this is sometimes it’s possible to hold the foot in tiger tail on one side but not the other!

If holding the foot isn’t possible then consider either just reaching the hand behind, or use a yoga strap. As shown below. Loop it around the ankle and “walk” the hands down the strap.

Another option is to grab the pant leg or socks. This class is gentle, slow and builds with your practice. Give it a try next time you want to explore mobility in the back, shoulders and hips!
