15 minute Yogalates Workout for beginners

June 19, 2020 //  by Di Hickman//  15 Comments

Do you love Yoga, but also love Pilates? Well you don’t have to choose between Yoga or Pilates in your next workout! Because, you can do BOTH with Yogalates. Get the benefits of strength and toning or both classes with this 15 minute Yogalates workout for beginners!

15 minute full body yoga flow class

All it takes is 15 minutes to build heat, strengthen, tone, and get a little challenge at the same time. There are variations for beginners in the more challenging parts. And the good news is, that you’ll know those moves as they’re done in the warm up. After all, as Tony Robins said “Repetition is the mother of skill”. Try the workout below.

As always if for some reason the video doesn’t play you can check it out on YouTube. While there maybe add it to your workouts playlist, and don’t forget to Subscribe. I upload new videos every Tuesday and Friday.

15 minute Yogalates workout

Even though the workout is short, this 15 minute Yogalates workout is formatted as a regular class. We begin grounding on the floor, followed by a warm up. And, gradually working up to the energy building exercises.

When on all fours, we explore knee to elbow. Working the core, arms and shoulders. Then progressing to flowing through downward facing dog and plank.

The real heat of this 15 minute Yogalates workout comes from plank variations. Flowing from three legged dog to plank variations: Knee to elbow and knee to chest.

There is the beginner variation of staying with the version we did in the warm up and dropping one knee to the floor.

Is there still relaxation/savasana?

You bet there is! However, this is a shorter workout so the relaxation is shorter. Of course, if you wanted longer savasana then absolutely take it!!! Personally, I believe we need more rest than ever right now.

If you’re looking for extra relaxation I can suggest my 12 minute body scan. Or a 15 minute restorative pranayama. If meditation is your preference, try this 5 minute guided meditation [with free MP3 download].

This is great! I had always been confused on how to incorporate Pilates into workout without an actual Pilates machine, but this makes perfect sense.

I used to do yoga but left it year back. I am more interested in Pilates now. It is fun and sportive and would like to begin the healthy lifestyle again. You are a good motivator.

Thank you. Yep I like both, many of the movements are in both classes (planks, boats etc). Have you tried both combined before?

As I am getting older, I have come to realize that I desperately need to work on my flexibility. SO this 15 minute yogalates workout would be great for guys like me. Plus being able to do them at home when I first wake up would make it easier on my macho male mind! (sadly)

Definitely! Pilates and yoga exercises are so closely linked and share a lot of similar poses.
