10 minute Yogalates workout for beginners

July 14, 2020 //  by Di Hickman//  14 Comments

One thing I am known for at the yoga studio is core, strength and challenging classes. While I have a soft side, I also trained for 20+ years as a Personal Trainer. Nowadays I ride the line between working out and working in. There is a balance. In this 10 minute yogalates workout for beginners we focus on the core. And, it’s all on the floor!

Core Yoga. 15 minute floor abs workouts

When I was creating a lot of workout style interval videos I tended to make them around 5 – 10 minutes long. Why? Because, if you have longer, just do it twice. Put it on repeat. The core doesn’t need a whole lot of work, we use it every single day! It just needs EFFECTIVE work.

If you want, you can view the video directly on YouTube. Maybe add it to a playlist. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel, I upload new videos every Tuesday and Friday. For exclusive longer format videos sign up for my Patreon community.

Yogalates workout for beginners – exercises

Yoga & pilates. Two of my favorite things combined into this yogalates workout for beginners. This is a great class for beginners as each set gets progressively more challenging and it’s all on the floor! After a short warm up we get into variations of crunches and bridges.

The more challenging bridge variations use a yoga block. This yogalates workout for beginners is YOUR workout so choose a variation that works for you. Not ready for single legs? That’s ok say with the previous version. Try the harder version next time.

As we work on the hips and core during the workout at the end there is a few minutes of seated stretch to elongate through the side waist. One of my favorite stretches. Ending with breath to ground and center us to move on through our day.

Love that this is only 10 minutes as when your short on time sometimes a shorter workout is what is required xx

Yep. What I’ve realized over the years is that people want and need shorter workouts. We all have 5-10 minutes to do a little bit of movement!

I love Pilates! I miss doing it on the Reformer and I prefer it to yoga, actually lol. Yogalates…interesting. I love the combo of both for core and glutes workout.

This workout is short enough for me to squeeze in while working from home, but long enough to feel active. Definitely saving this video for later!

Exactly. I think 10-15 minutes hits the sweet spot for working out during these crazy times.
